                      About

A medium-sized tree, the Sourwood shines in the Summer and Fall. Its midsummer flowers appear like lilies-of-the-valley, are highly fragrant and contrast nicely against the green foliage. Then in the Fall, leaves turn intensely beautiful shades of brilliant crimson, purplish-red and sometimes yellow. This tree shines in landscaping as a specimen in a lawn, a garden feature, an ornamental addition to larger trees or a clump in a large, open space. And for honey lovers, the sourwood offers an additional bonus. Honey produced from the flowers of this tree is considered by many to be unmatched by clover, orange blossom, fireweed or any other honey. It has few pest or disease problems and is easily treated for the ones it does encounter.

                      Wildlife

Deer browse sourwood twigs and leaves. Gourmet honey is produced by the many bees that are attracted to the nectar-laden flowers.

                      Quirky Facts

A native tree of North America, the Sourwood is one of the few endemic trees that is not found in other continents unless planted, and has no related species. The name Sourwood is derived from the acrid taste of its leaves, but tea made from these leaves is widely used by mountain climbers as a thirst-quencher. Pioneers used the sap as one ingredient in a concoction used for treating fevers, the bark for chewing to soothe mouth pains, and leaf tea for treating diarrhea, indigestion and dysentery. But the best known by-product of the Sourwood tree is the hard-to-find and extremely delicious honey produced from the fragrant blossoms by honeybees.

                      Wonderful service

I lost my Husky of 18 years, and this was a great way to memorialize her. I received the urn and the tree within a week, and the quality of both was outstanding. I highly recommend this company and the services they offer.

                      Quality service

I ordered the urn and willow for my dog’s cremains. The service was easy to use, with clear instructions and useful information. The living urn couldn’t be simpler to use (I was concerned it might be unduly complex). The urn arrived beautifully packaged (the casing and materials are quality). I had to change the tree’s delivery date; that took a couple of phone calls to the nursery, but the tree arrived in good condition. It’s hard to say how well it will grow as it’s deciduous and newly planted, but it seems healthy. Overall, I’m very happy with both the urn and the service. I would strong recommend this company.

                      Azalea for my cat

The instructions were so helpful. I appreciated the direction and ease of use. The plant came and was in wonderful condition. The helpful zone configurator made it very easy to be sure I picked a plant that would do well in my area.

                      Lovely Tribute

The kit arrived quickly with all of the components needed to create a lovely tribute to my late dog. No issues putting everything together, except the biodegradable urn is really big for animal ashes and requires a huge hole to plant. I understand that an urn of this size is important for the volume of human ashes, but maybe make a smaller one for pets that’s easier to plant? Just a thought for a future product. Anyway, a very nice kit overall.

                      Awesome

Really nice urn - my dog passed last month and have been looking for something special for her. Love the personalization and that it's affordable - thanks!
