Memory Forest at Herland Forest Natural Burial Cemetery

Wahkiacus, Washington

The Herland Forest Natural Burial Cemetery is located on the eastern edge of the Cascadian wildness where wetland Douglas fir gives way to dryland Ponderosa pine in among century-old oak trees. A permaculture forest, Herland is home to a wide variety of tree types that provide shelter and food to birds, bees, owls, squirrels, and deer aplenty.

The graves are planted with tulips, daffodils, lilies, and saffron, and are surrounded by a diversity of wildflowers that only grow in the transition zone where the wet and dry highlands meet on a wild strawberry landscape.
