Fall is Almost Here - 10 Great Things to do with Family
While Fall doesn’t officially start until September 23rd, the upcoming Labor Day weekend marks the end of Summer for many - kids are heading back to school, Summer camps are over, nights are colder, pools close down, and most Summer activities have wrapped up. The upcoming Fall season is a great time to head outdoors and enjoy everything nature has to offer! It is a unique time of year that displays beautiful colors and brings great things to do with family and friends.
Below we’ve highlighted 10 great things to do this Fall:
10. Go for a Hike
With cooler temperatures and with many trees showing off beautiful arrays of color, Fall is a great time to gather the family and go on a hike. There are many online resources that show trail ratings, reviews and difficulty levels for all ages – giving you the ability to easily try a new trail with the peace-of-mind knowing it’s something the entire family can enjoy!
9. Create a Pinecone Bird Feeder
With Summer coming to an end and the start of Fall, there are many exciting activities to do with your children or grandchildren. One, in particular, is to create a pinecone bird feeder. This is a nostalgic moment that brings back memories of childhood for many. Making a simple bird feeder from a pinecone is a great time to enjoy conversation with your little ones and learn together, while creating something they can truly enjoy. Then, hang the bird feeders outside and let the kids watch as they help feed our feathered friends!
8. Plant Trees
Many people don’t realize it, but Fall is one of the best times to plant trees! When planting in the Fall, trees can focus on having their roots grow and adapt to the environment before the arrival of Winter and prior spending energy growing new branches and leaves in the Spring! Visit your local nursery with your family and pick out a tree. Then, involve everybody in the planting – a great family activity!
If you’ve lost a loved one (or pet) during the year, Fall is also a wonderful time to plant a memory tree in their honor. You can simply plant a tree, or use The Living Urn bio urn and planting system that incorporates the ashes of a person or pet in the tree planting process. This patented tree urn comes with everything you need to grow a tree memorial, including a proprietary biodegradable urn, soil additives, mulch, planting instructions, and a tree of choice – choose from over 50 beautiful tree options narrowed down by zip code to what grows best in your area!
7. Jump in a Pile of Leaves
Some of the fondest childhood memories are of the simplest things. With Fall, trees will not only display an array of beautiful orange, red and yellow color, they will also lose their leaves. Have your kids or grandkids join you in raking a large amount up into a pile and let them run and jump into the leaves! This is a fun activity that many children will remember forever. Then, when done, have your children (or grandchildren) help pick up the leaves and put them into the trash bin – an added bonus for you!
6. Take a Hot Air Balloon Ride
Most people have never been in a hot air balloon and experienced the thrill and beauty of being lifted into the sky under a giant balloon while seeing amazing views below. Why not include this on your list of things to do this Fall? With the temperatures dropping, Fall is a great time to make a hearty batch of warm chili that the entire family can enjoy! Drop in your favorite seasonings and experiment with some new ones. Enter a local chili cook-off contest to see how your chili compares to others in the community!
